In our first editing project, we were asked to create a film based off of a random given word. This project was created to allow us students to display our ability to apply camera shots/angles and editing techniques to help create a story. In our pairs, we were asked to first brainstorm some ideas, then create a storyboard, and to finally utilise the skills that were taught to film a story. This project depended heavily on how we conveyed the message of the word through shots, movement, composition, and editing, because we were restricted from using sound.
In our brainstorming stage, it was difficult for us to come up with some ideas for our word, "Cruel". In the end, we decided to create a story that surrounded the cruel topic of bullying. Our story surrounded a lonely girl who was being picked on by a group of friends. Storyboarding was a fun and aided in our progression with the film. This step allowed us to pre-visualise our final piece, which helped us when we started the actual filming process. Without the storyboard, we would've been lost and confused about what shots we would've needed. When we completed the filming, we moved on to the final step: editing. The editing software that my partner and I chose to use was Adobe Express. We used different editing techniques, such as the Eyeline Match and Action Match. It was interesting to see how a film would come together using these techniques.
Overall, I believe that my partner and I did a decent job at creating a film that represented the word "cruel." We did well in terms of utilising different camera shots/angles techniques, however, I think we could've improved on our filming strategy. I think we would've done better if we filmed extra shots, because one problem we encountered was having some shots that we weren't satisfied with, if we took more videos of our vision, we would've had a wider range of films to choose from.

Camera Shots Quiz
For this assignment, we were asked to choose an inanimate object and put together 15 shots to create a story. Ten of the shots had to include ones that we learned in class, the other five were up to my partner and I to pick.
We decided that the easiest object to utilise in our project would be our water bottles. Since we were in a classroom, we believed it was best to create a story that was common in school. We discussed this and decided to use bullying as our topic. We used various shots and angles to convey a message and the emotions that came with it into our pictures. One of our water bottles was bigger than the other, so we used the larger bottle to represent the bully, as this displays a difference in power and dominance between the two characters. We also used more stationary tools like scissors and coloured pens to represent the principal and other students, respectively. This advances the plot of our scene, eventually bringing a closure to our story.
As I reflect on this project, I believe my partner and I did a good job at conveying emotions through the shots. I also believe we chose the right shots for each scene, which in turn helped develop the plot. Some ways I could've improved was by creating more accurate shots. I believed that if we utilised our classroom space better by stepping back or bending down towards the floor would've helped us deliver the message slightly better.

An Introduction
Hi! My name's Taryn. This blog is created as a portfolio to show my progress within my AICE Media Studies class. I'm excited to share my knowledge about the media sphere. But before we start, allow me to introduce myself.
I'm a young teenage girl who loves to do outdoor activities. Unfortunately, I recently fractured my tibia at summer camp back in July 2025. I'm currently in recovery and PT but I'm positive I'll bounce back in no time!
I started playing lacrosse after I moved to the U.S. in the spring of 2023, and I'm currently playing for my school's team. I also do windsurfing, which I started when I was 11 in Hong Kong. I used to do musical theatres for my school, and even though I don't join any plays anymore, I'm still very enthusiastic about the theatre world.
That's all from me (for now), I hope you'll get to know me more as I post more about my journey in AICE Media Studies. Love you all <3
